Why Taking Supplements Is Important for CrossFitters

There is no doubt that CrossFit is a very challenging sport that utilizes every energy system in your body and combining many training disciplines in one exhausting workout. 

But did you know that an addition of a few supplements can have remarkable effects on your WOD results?  By taking supplements, you can improve aspects of performance such as strength, endurance, aerobic fitness, and energy capacity which will result in killing your WOD scores!

Below are 4 supplement categories that may be worth looking into if you’re a CrossFitter:

  • Proteins: the building blocks within our muscle and are key for muscle growth, recovery, strength adaptations, and even fat loss. The majority of our protein needs can be obtained from foods such as meat, fish and eggs. There are numerous types of protein with different benefits and amino acid profiles.  The key proteins sources for a CrossFitter includes: whey (fast digesting), casein (slow digesting) and BCAA (purest form of protein).

  • Blended Supplements/Pre-Workout: convenient and useful ensuring you’re getting the nutrients that you need in a correct dosage without having to use multiple products.  The most common is a pre-workout followed by a few others including post-workout solutions, fat burners and green powders.

  • Fat Burners: can be either single or multiple ingredients that can enhance fat loss by boosting metabolism, helps utilize fat for fuel, or reduce appetite.  Fat burners may be useful as CrossFit relies heavily on body weight to strength ratios which means that you must be in your best shape possible without any dead weight.

  • Amino Acid Variations: accompanied with basics such as BCAAs and Leucine, the other important amino-acid molecules that are also important for CrossFitters are: Creatine, Glutamine, Citrulline, Beta-alanine.
